Hey guys i have recently recieved a nice new addition fracture to my frontal skull plate right above my eyebraws.. So since my skull accident which happend about almost two years ago I have read and experienced, since i was given ULTRAM pain killers after i had a knee surgery a month ago that Ultram makes people with pre exisiting cranium fractures go into a SEIZURE. \

Now if that dumb as would have read the warning label on Ultram which sayz peole with pre existing skull fractures will have a greater risk of having a seizures if they take this drug. So what im getting at, since how i am very scared about any medication i take cause if i have a seizure at my house i could die. SO DOES ANYONE WHO MIGHT HAVE THIS CONDITION, KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SUBJECT, OR KNOW A PHARMACOLOGIST OR ARE A HRT DR. Please leave any info or point the direction to where i can get a safe and informative and correct answer cuase i lost like 60 lbs from this accident and i need to start to make some gains since i can now have the mobility and ability to work out

I've heard of this drug (tramadol) lowering the seizure threshold but have never encountered people whom have had seizures as a direct result of using the meds.

The following is from the clinical data-

The most commonly reported adverse drug reactions are nausea, vomiting and sweating. Drowsiness is reported, although it is less of an issue than for other opioids. Respiratory depression, a common side effect of most opioids, is not clinically significant in normal doses. By itself, it can decrease the seizure threshold. When combined with SSRIs, tricyclic antidepressants, or in patients with epilepsy, the seizure threshold is further decreased. Seizures have been reported in humans receiving excessive single oral doses (700 mg) or large intravenous doses (300 mg). An Australian study found that of 97 confirmed new-onset seizures, eight were associated with Tramadol, and that in the authors' First Seizure Clinic, "Tramadol is the most frequently suspected cause of provoked seizures" (Labate 2005). Dosages of coumadin/warfarin may need to be reduced for anticoagulated patients to avoid bleeding complications.

Therefore the dosage and any other meds you are on could play a role.

Tramadol is an excellent drug for post op pain. However at 4 weeks post-op do you still need it? May be better to go down the ladder of analgesics although to my mind tramadol is pretty safe in normal dosages.
