drug testing

any aussie's out there know bout drug screening for a job on the mines? theres a possibility i may be getting a job on a mine in a few months and was wondering if they screen for steroids when you have the pre employment physical?

hi bigBG,
I am currently at one of the coal mines located near Mackay, Qld. To the best of my knowledge they do not screen for steroids during the pre-employment medical. If you will be working in a coal mine in Qld then you may be required to to a Fitness for Work test, which is designed to test for overall level of fitness.

Cant say with my life riding on it but the many guys I've seen who have been tested, tell me its all about alcohol and recreational drugs. Never over the years have I heard steroids ever mentioned.

Cant really see them wanting to spend that sort of money and after all, they are very unlikely to be a performance affecting drug o why bother?

no jobs that i no of test for steroids...........those that require testing test for all social drugs tho...

If job drug testing is done, it is usually a urine screen which detects metabolites of cocaine, benzodiazepines (like Valium), opioids (heroin but also Panadeine Forte etc.), amphetamines and related compounds (ecstasy as well as meth) and marijuana. The amount of time for which the test will stay positive after use varies between the different drugs, probably only days for most except for marijuana which can stay positive for weeks.

yeh cheers guys, thats what i thought but just thought id get some other peoples thoughts.....prefer asking you guys than the guy doing the drug testing!
